Independent preacher Zamri Vinoth has denied evading authorities and said he is ready to cooperate with the police. PETALING JAYA: Zamri Vinoth’s lawyer has denied that the independent preacher will be charged today, saying police investigations are ongoing. Lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla said he has yet to be informed when his client would be charged, Harian Metro reported. There were multiple reports this morning that Zamri was expected to be charged in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today. On Friday, Bukit Aman said it had received orders from the Attorney-General’s Chambers to charge Zamri and activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak, but the pair had fled to Thailand. Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said police are working with Thai authorities to track down the duo. Zamri has denied evading authorities and said he was ready to cooperate, but Tamim reportedly mocked the police in a social media post, saying: “Catch me if you can.” Khalid previously said Zamri will be charged with making statements that could cause public alarm and distress during a gathering outside the Sogo shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 7. This is believed to be referring to the planned rally against so-called “illegal” places of worship, which failed to take place. Khalid said Zamri will also be charged in Penang with sedition over a statement in which he allegedly insulted the Indian community.
