Kulim deputy police chief Tengku Faisal Tengku Yeng said the man was arrested at a house in Kampung Naga Lilit, Padang Serai, at 12.30am. “A .38 calibre revolver, 10 bullets and casings, a yellow Honda Civic and a mobile phone were also seized. “The suspect, a local, tested negative for drugs,” Bernama reported him as saying at the Kulim police headquarters. Tengku Faisal said the man has been remanded for six days until March 26 to assist with the investigation. The motive for the shooting has yet to be determined. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was reportedly on his way to his mother’s house in Kampung Permatang Durian, Padang Serai, when the incident occurred. Tengku Faisal said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and victim knew each other. “Witnesses said an argument broke out before the suspect fired a shot, hitting the victim in the right arm and chest. The suspect then fled the scene,” he said. Tengku Faisal said the victim, a factory operator, is currently receiving treatment at Kulim Hospital and is in stable condition. “The gunshot did not hit any critical internal organs. However, a check on the victim’s record revealed 12 prior criminal and drug-related offences,” he said. Tengku Faisal said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm in the commission of a scheduled offence.
