The joint forces headquarters said Fredenick anak Petrus, 21, was under military detention in Kota Samarahan after initial investigations revealed that he had been absent without leave. The joint forces headquarters said Fredenick, from the 6th Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, was reported missing during a morning roll call at the Pulau Pandanan post in Semporna on March 14 while assigned to an operation there. He was apprehended by military police in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, five days later on March 19. “He was brought before the Kota Samarahan magistrates’ court and is currently under military detention at the Muara Tuang camp (in Kota Samarahan) for further investigation,” the joint forces headquarters said in a statement. It said a detailed probe is ongoing to determine the cause of his absence, with action to be taken under the Armed Forces Act 1972. “Members of the public are advised not to speculate as it could affect the investigation,” it added.
