KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Thursday, rebounding as the greenback consolidated following mixed US economic data. At 8am, the local currency strengthened to 3.9270/3.9370 against the US dollar, from Wednesday’s close of 3.9305/3.9345. IPPFA director of investment strategy and country economist Sedek Jantan said data from US automatic data processing (ADP) showed private payrolls rose by 22,000 in January, below consensus estimates of 46,000 and down from 37,000 in December, signalling slower hiring momentum in the US labour market.
