PUTRAJAYA: Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has given his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into a RM1.1 billion agreement between the government and a foreign firm. When asked to comment on the probe involving Rafizi, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said 12 witnesses from various government agencies had their statements recorded, including the former minister. He said the other officials included top officers in the economy ministry, the investment, trade and industry ministry, and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida). “I don’t want to say the name, but a former minister was summoned to give his statement,” he told a press conference here. “Our investigation was launched after a complaint was filed involving a project between the Malaysian government and the UK company ARM Holdings. “We are looking to determine if there were elements of abuse of power, fraud or governance issues,” said Azam. Rafizi previously accused MACC of conducting a politically motivated investigation against him. The PKR MP said the allegations against him revolved around two major government policies – the Silicon Vision Programme and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) – both of which he said went through multiple layers of government approval, including Cabinet endorsement. The Silicon Vision Programme involved a collaboration between the government and ARM Holdings to create the country’s first semiconductor chips. The NETR outlines the country’s energy transition targets up to 2050 and involves major investments in the green industry.
