Muda won the Puteri Wangsa state seat through Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz in a six-cornered contest in 2022. PETALING JAYA: Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the seat she holds belongs to the people, and ultimately it is the voters who will decide who they trust to represent them. Amira, who is also the acting president of Muda, said any party has the right to contest in a democratic system, but the final decision rests with the people. “I leave it to the people of Puteri Wangsa to judge who they trust. Every seat belongs to the people,” she said, commenting on Johor Amanah’s claim about the seat. Earlier today, Johor Amanah vice-chief Zuhan Zain said his party would help Pakatan Harapan (PH) regain the Puteri Wangsa seat in the next state election. He said that PH “loaned” the Puteri Wangsa seat to Muda in the 2022 Johor polls, “but Muda later retracted support (for the unity government)”. Zuhan also said there would be no talks for an electoral pact with Muda, which currently sits in the opposition in Parliament and the Johor legislative assembly. Amira believes voters are matured enough to assess candidates based on their work on the ground, even if she faces the challenge of contesting without the support of the PH machinery. “I am grateful to have been entrusted with representing Puteri Wangsa since 2022, and my focus remains the same – to serve the residents here to the best of my ability. “Over the nearly four years since I took office, I have tried to fulfil this trust as best as I can, from resolving local issues to raising the voices of Puteri Wangsa residents at the state assembly, national, and international levels,” she told FMT. Amira said her party’s decision to leave the ruling bloc to become a “third force” was not motivated by ill intent, but was a principled choice. “Muda does not and will never compromise on corruption and misconduct in politics,” she said. However, Amira said the decision on whether to defend the seat would be left to the party’s central executive committee, which will be elected on March 14. Muda won the state seat through Amira in a six-cornered contest in 2022. Johor PKR Youth chief Faezuddin Puad said the Puteri Wangsa seat should not be seen as the permanent stronghold of any party, adding that seat allocations must be determined rationally, taking into account factors including the strength of party machinery and on-the-ground operations.
