Social media influencer Siew Pui Yi previously obtained judgment in default against her former business partner Lai Kai Jian for the recovery of RM4.3 million purportedly handed to him to pay off her tax dues. GEORGE TOWN: Social media influencer Siew Pui Yi’s dispute with her former business partner Lai Kai Jian has taken a new turn following the latter’s arrest. Her lawyer, K Mahendran, said magistrate Nur Syahirah Suhkri issued a four‐day remand order against Lai today to enable him to assist in a police probe under Section 420 of the Penal Code for alleged cheating. In July 2024, Siew obtained default judgment in the High Court for RM4.3 million after he failed to enter an appearance to defend the suit. In the suit, Siew alleged that Lai, also known as “Mentos”, absconded with funds intended to be used to settle her tax dues with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN). She said the tax arrears led to an LDHN travel ban which caused her to miss four events in Australia.
