PN to name new opposition leader by month’s end

PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar chaired a Supreme Council meeting at Gerakan’s headquarters in Cheras today. KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will announce the name of its new opposition leader by the end of this month, says coalition chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. Samsuri said the matter was agreed upon at the PN Supreme Council meeting today, which focused on appointments to fill the vacancies in the leadership. He said Takiyuddin Hassan has been appointed PN secretary-general, replacing Azmin Ali, who resigned effective Jan 1 – the same day Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down as the coalition’s chairman. Azmin has been appointed deputy secretary-general alongside Gerakan secretary-general Wong Chia Zhen and Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) vice-president K Sivakumar. Meanwhile, senior PAS leader Annuar Musa has been made PN information chief, while Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin has been appointed the coalition’s election director, taking over from PAS’s Sanusi Nor. Sanusi, the Kedah menteri besar, has been appointed the coalition’s treasurer-general, while Bersatu acting Wanita chief Nolee Ashilin Radzi takes over from Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as PN Wanita chief.
