Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik has replaced party colleague Fahmi Zainol in the Penang executive council, although his portfolio has not been confirmed yet. GEORGE TOWN: PKR’s Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik has been named as a Penang executive councillor to replace party colleague Fahmi Zainol, who has been dropped from the state’s administration following his charging in court. Goh’s portfolio, however, has yet to be confirmed. Fahmi was the agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development committee chairman before his termination today. According to a statement from the chief minister’s office, governor Ramli Ngah Talib consented to Goh’s appointment. Goh will receive his letter of appointment and take his oath of office on Friday morning. Earlier today, chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said Fahmi had been dropped as an exco member with immediate effect, following a request by the PKR leadership. On Feb 27, Fahmi claimed trial to a domestic abuse charge, and was subsequently stripped of his party post. He held an ex-officio position as a Penang PKR committee member by virtue of being an assemblyman. He has appealed against the decision, saying he should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
