(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: The man seen in a viral video filling plastic containers with RON95 petrol at a station in Bayan Lepas, Penang, committed no offence, the domestic trade and cost of living ministry said today. S Jegan, director of the ministry’s Penang branch, said enforcement officers were deployed to the location to investigate the incident following a complaint. “Checks found that the individual is a fisherman and holds a valid permit to purchase fuel in accordance with the existing laws, subject to a set quota. “As such, the fuel purchase complies with regulations and does not involve any offence,” he said in a statement today. Dashcam footage of the incident at a petrol station along Jalan Tengah had gone viral on social media. The video showed a man filling two plastic containers in the boot of a Perodua Alza. Jegan said that purchases of more than 20 litres of fuel in containers require a special permit for controlled goods issued by the ministry. “Such permits are typically issued for specific uses, including agricultural and fisheries operations, and are subject to stipulated conditions,” he said. He warned that selling fuel in containers beyond the permitted limit without approval is an offence under the Supply Control Act 1961. “The public is advised not to speculate or spread inaccurate information that could cause confusion,” he said.
