Those who are fasting can donate blood four hours after sahur, provided they have had sufficient sleep, drank enough water, and are in good health. PETALING JAYA: Penang Hospital has called for blood donors as its stocks of blood for types O, A and B are running low. The hospital’s transfusion medicine department head, Dr Norhaza Abdul Rahim said it needs to ensure blood supplies remain sufficient, especially during the festive season. “Blood supplies are needed to meet the needs of emergency cases, surgeries, chronic patients and those requiring periodic blood transfusions. “Without continuous blood donations from the public, our existing stocks will not be able to meet increasing demand,” Bernama reported her as saying today. The hospital blood bank’s operating hours during Ramadan are 7.30am to 1.30pm and 2pm to 5pm from Monday to Thursday, and 7.30am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 9.30pm on Fridays. Members of the public may also visit the Derma Darah Penang Facebook page for updates on mobile blood donation campaigns.
