Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin previously confirmed that discussions to take over Parti Keluarga Malaysia were underway. PETALING JAYA: Parti Keluarga Malaysia has yet to be registered as a political party, with its initial application rejected by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in 2022, says Wan Saiful Wan Jan. The Tasek Gelugor MP, formerly of Bersatu, said a new registration “process” was ongoing, Berita Harian reported. “I was informed that there are no issues for us to join the party... if there are any issues, we will resolve them immediately,” Wan Saiful said, adding that he had joined opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin in discussions on taking over the party. RoS director-general Zulfikar Ahmad meanwhile said that Parti Keluarga Malaysia had yet to file a new application for registration as a political party. He warned that political parties operating without registration could face action under the Societies Act 1966. “Its application was rejected in 2022 because it did not meet the requirements set out under the First Schedule of the Societies Act 1966. “This includes clauses on party governance which must be clearly stated in the party’s constitution, such as sources of funding, committee composition, and procedures for holding general meetings,” he said. On Tuesday, Hamzah confirmed discussions to join and lead Parti Keluarga Malaysia after its founder, Khairi Jaya, reportedly said that a takeover was “90% confirmed”. This followed Bersatu’s move to expel Hamzah at the height of his leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
