MIRI (Dec 26): A row of two-door wooden stalls at Pasar Lapok Tinjang here was destroyed in a fire early on Friday.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at about 4.38am, prompting the immediate dispatch of a team from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Lopeng). The location was more than an hour’s drive from the station.

Upon arrival, the Operation Command Unit (PKO) led by Senior Fire Officer II Helmi Salih reported that the stalls, measuring approximately 20 by 50 square feet, were already fully gutted by fire.

“The firefighting operation deployed one auxiliary hose line with one nozzle, using water supplied from the fire engine pump, until the fire was fully extinguished,” the report said.

After the area was declared safe and no further fire hazards were detected, the firefighting team returned to the station.
