Two labourers arrested for suspected drug abuse in Lawas

MIRI (Dec 21): Police have arrested two labourers for suspected drug abuse in Lawas last week.

Lawas district police chief DSP Liong Tindan the first suspect was arrested during an operation in Lawas town at about 6.15pm on Thursday.

“Searches did not uncover any illegal items or drugs, but urine test results showed the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. The suspect has no previous offences,” he said in a statement.

Liong said the second suspect was arrested during a roadside operation at Punang around 1.30pm on Friday.

He added that the 41-year-old suspect has eight previous records.

“Searches did not find any illegal items or drugs. However, urine test results showed the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while checks revealed eight previous drug-related offences,” he said.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
