SIBU (Dec 20): A large crowd turned up for the ‘Light Up West Bank’ Christmas celebration held at the West Bank here on Friday.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Councillor Kevin Lau said the overwhelming response reflected strong support from residents, organisers, and community leaders for the programme.
He also expressed gratitude to the organising team for their dedication and hard work.
“Every decoration, performance, and rehearsal reflected the organisers’ sincerity in delivering a meaningful and memorable experience for the public,” he said during the celebration.
Touching on the event’s theme, Kevin said ‘Light Up West Bank’ embodies the true meaning of Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ — a symbol of God’s love and a source of hope for all.
“This gathering is not only a celebration, but also an opportunity for us to unite our hearts and continue spreading love and hope throughout the West Bank community,” he added, noting that such values are vital in strengthening community bonds and fostering care for one another.
Reflecting on the end of 2025, he highlighted the challenges and experiences of the year as lessons that have strengthened individuals and communities.
He also commented on global conflicts, expressing gratitude that Sarawak remains a model of peace, harmony, and coexistence, built on mutual respect among its multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
“We must continue working together to build a more stable and united society, not only in Sibu but across Sarawak.”
Kevin further expressed hope that the songs, dances, and performances presented during the evening would touch hearts, bring joy to the audience, and create lasting memories on this festive night.
Community leader Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau was among those gracing the event.
