KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Prices for some of Rapid KL’s public transport passes will go up next year starting January 1, but prices for the My50 monthly pass — which allows unlimited rides on rail and bus services in the Klang Valley for Malaysians only — will remain unchanged at RM50.

Apart from the price increases, some of the passes will now only be available for Malaysians, while a new monthly pass called Rapid Bulanan will be available at RM150 for both Malaysians and non-Malaysians to purchase.

In a statement today, public services operator Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) announced price adjustments for several Rapid KL travel passes, which it said was in line with the expansion of the public transport network and the need to ensure more stable and sustainable services in the long term.

“This adjustment is the first since 2009, taking into account the increase in operations and maintenance costs from year to year, besides Prasarana’s continued commitment to ensure safety standards and service reliability are always at their best,” the company said in its statement.

The main price changes effective January 1, 2026 are: Rapid Kota (unlimited travel pass for Malaysians for one day at RM10, three days at RM25); Rapid Kembara (unlimited travel pass with special perks and discounts from RapidKL’s partners for one day at RM25, three days at RM55); Rapid Keluarga (unlimited one-day travel pass for one group of four Malaysians at RM30); and Rapid Pelajar concession card (50 per cent discount limited to Malaysian students only, with applications open from January 1; existing non-Malaysian students holding the card may continue to use it until it expires or until December 31, 2026).

Prasarana stressed that the existing My50, the Rapid Emas concession card (providing 50 per cent discount for Malaysians aged 60 and above) and the Rapid Mesra concession card (providing free rides for registered Malaysian disabled persons) will continue to be available next year without any price changes.

It said this is in line with its commitment to ensure affordable and inclusive public transport.

Rapid Bulanan to benefit non-Malaysians looking for a monthly pass

Explaining the new Rapid Bulanan pass that will be sold from January 1, Prasarana said it is a 30-day pass for unlimited Rapid KL rail and bus rides.

The difference between the two monthly passes is that My50 at RM50 will be for Malaysians only, while Rapid Bulanan will be open for purchase by non-citizens too but at a higher RM150 rate.

”With increasing demand for public transport, including among expatriates and long-term visitors, the introduction of Rapid Bulanan will also provide more flexible and practical choices to users who rely on Rapid KL’s rail and bus services every day,” Prasarana said.

Price adjustments come after expanded public transport options for Klang Valley users

In Prasarana’s statement, the company’s acting chief for its department for management of stakeholders’ experience and group marketing, Ashok Panchalingam also explained that the price adjustment for next year was made based on comprehensive studies of usage patterns, service network expansion and current operating costs.

“Although the price adjustment is carried out, Rapid KL’s travel passes still offer the best value to daily users through consistent savings, unlimited travel and mobility experience that is continuously being upgraded,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.

He said that the price adjustment is in line with Rapid KL’s rail and bus network transformation which is now more comprehensive when compared to a decade ago, including the opening of two MRT lines (Kajang line in 2016 and Putrajaya line in 2022), and new bus routes, expansion of coverage areas and increase in service frequencies.
