KUCHING (Dec 20): Registration for the Kuching Autistic Association’s (KAA) Meow Run for Autism 2026 is now open, with this edition also welcoming individuals with other special needs.
The open-to-all event will be flagged off at 6am on April 12, 2026, at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) grounds.
Participants can choose between the 3km and 5km categories, with family-friendly activities scheduled throughout the morning.
According to organising chairperson and KAA secretary Duane Reggie, the decision to include individuals with other special needs reflects a shared understanding of the challenges surrounding awareness and acceptance.
“We aim to create a welcoming and inclusive platform where individuals with special needs can come together in a supportive and friendly environment,” he said in a press statement issued Friday.
Individuals with special needs are encouraged to register via their respective associations or centres for group participation.
Members of the public are also invited to take part, become volunteers, or contribute through donations.
“Those unable to attend may support the cause by sponsoring a runner or making a direct donation to the association,” said Duane.
Moreover, the event will also feature lucky draws, refreshments, and informational booths out to raise awareness of autism.
“All proceeds will go directly to KAA to support the expansion of therapy services, educational resources, and community outreach initiatives,” added Duane.
“The association requires more than RM1.5 million annually to operate, with an additional RM800,000 needed beyond student fees.”
