(JBPM pic) PETALING JAYA: Firefighting operations are ongoing at an oil palm plantation in Nenasi, Pekan, Pahang, for the second consecutive day. Pahang fire and rescue department deputy director Wan Ahmad Fadillah Wan Abdul Rahman said his team had brought the fire, affecting around 150ha of the 500ha plantation, under control. “So far, 48ha have been extinguished. We have two teams using a portable pump with two 300ft hose streams drawing from open water sources,” Bernama reported him as saying. Wan Fadillah said a request for assistance from the department’s air unit had been submitted to accelerate firefighting efforts due to limited land access to the site. He said the department is also conducting firefighting operations at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Jemeri, Kuala Rompin, covering about 292ha, for the second consecutive day. “So far, 6.07ha have been extinguished, while the remaining area is estimated at around 286ha. The operation is being carried out using a portable pump with a 600ft hose and two water streams,” he said. Wan Ahmad Fadillah said both operations involved 28 personnel from the Nenasi and Kuala Rompin fire and rescue stations. “No casualties have been reported so far,” he added.
