CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today launched KinderHub@MCMC, an on-site childcare and early education centre at the commission’s headquarters here, aimed at helping employees achieve a better balance between work and family responsibilities. Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil, who officiated the launch of the facility, said the initiative reflected the regulator’s commitment to strengthening staff welfare while supporting a productive and resilient workforce. “This is a very significant step to strengthening the wellbeing of the MCMC workforce’s families,” he said at the launching ceremony at MCMC’s headquarters. KinderHub@MCMC, which combines a daycare centre and preschool, operates from Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm, and can accommodate up to 153 children. The centre began operations on Jan 15 and currently has 76 children aged between three months and six years enrolled. It is designed to provide a nurturing and conducive environment for the early childhood care and education of MCMC staff’s children, supporting their growth and development. Fahmi said that reliable childcare close to the workplace would give employees greater peace of mind and allow them to focus on their core responsibilities. “You can rest assured that your children are safe here, close to you while you focus on the work that we need to do, to make sure that the internet is safer for children and families,” he said. Fahmi also expressed hope that KinderHub@MCMC could serve as a model for other statutory bodies, especially those with the capacity to provide similar support to their employees. He urged the public service leadership to study the initiative and consider replicating it elsewhere, saying agencies without such facilities could observe MCMC’s implementation.
