GEORGE TOWN: Police have released a man who was detained for a day for allegedly threatening controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth. Another man, a 27-year-old, is now helping police with their investigation, says lawyer V Parthipan. Parthipan said he surrendered the 27-year-old to the police today. He said his client had filed a report against Zamri over the preacher’s claim in a video clip that he tried to run over two men on a motorcycle. “We hope the police will investigate it fairly,” he said. Earlier today Penang police chief Azizee Ismail said a man in his 20s was detained in Bukit Mertajam after Zamri lodged a report. He was detained for investigations into alleged criminal intimidation and mischief. Azizee said police would seek to identify others involved. Last night, Zamri shared a 19-second video clip on Facebook in which he spoke of “running over” two men on a motorcycle who allegedly threw three rocks at his Jaguar car, breaking two windows. He said the two unidentified men on a motorcycle and four others on foot had approached his car while it was parked. Zamri alleged that the men were acting as a result of “incitement and a false police report” by Jelutong MP RSN Rayer.
