Magistrate Arun Noval Dass imposed the fine on Zainul Ariffin Jaid, 32, after taking into account his guilty plea and mitigation, as well as the prosecution’s submissions, Harian Metro reported. Zainul was accused of intentionally causing fear to his 44-year-old sister by brandishing a parang at her at a house in Sri Merlong, Rengit, at about 1.40pm on March 1. The charge was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. Based on the facts of the case, the accused was angered because his sister did not wake him up to take their mother to hospital for diabetes treatment. However, the sister told him she had tried to wake him up several times, but he was unresponsive. The accused took a parang and threatened her, saying: “Don’t push me to the point where I lose control. If I do, I could do anything.” The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, while the accused was unrepresented.
