(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Batu Pahat magistrates’ court today to injuring his wife at their home in Peserai, Batu Pahat, Johor, last Friday. Ahmad Tajul Kushri Ahmad Tajul Ariffin, 48, entered his plea after the charge was read to him before magistrate Arun Noval Dass, Utusan Malaysia reported. He is alleged to have slapped his 44-year-old wife and struck her with a deodorant bottle at about 5pm on March 6. The incident reportedly followed an argument in which the victim accused her husband of neglecting the children, leading to the damage of several household items, including a phone charger. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, which provides for a sentence of up to twice the maximum term under Section 323 if convicted. Section 323 carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. The court granted bail of RM2,500, with the condition that Ahmad reports to the nearest police station every three weeks. It fixed May 5 for document submission and appointment of counsel. The case is being prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan.
