KL mayor brings consultations to parliamentary constituencies

(Envato Elements pic) PETALING JAYA: Federal territories minister Hannah Yeoh has announced that starting April, the monthly Kuala Lumpur mayor’s consultation meeting will be held in the respective parliamentary constituencies. She said the new approach is intended to ensure the people’s problems are resolved at the community level, noting that urban administration cannot be detached from the realities on the ground. Hannah Yeoh. “The meetings will be held in the respective parliamentary constituencies, chaired by City Hall’s executive director as the representative of the mayor and co-chaired by the area’s MP,” she said in a statement. Yeoh, who is the Segambut MP, said the relevant agencies and stakeholders will also be invited to the meetings so that issues can be discussed in a more coordinated manner and solutions implemented more effectively. She also said the approach will strengthen the role of City Hall’s branch offices in each parliamentary constituency and bring the headquarters’ capacity and resources directly to the ground, enabling issues to be identified, understood and resolved more quickly. Following Yeoh’s appointment as federal territories minister last year, a residents’ group had urged that city residents’ views be taken seriously and acted upon in shaping the development and management of the city — starting with genuine engagement rather than “mere box-ticking”.
