PETALING JAYA: Changes to the Kelantan shariah criminal code, providing for offences voided by the Federal Court, are expected to be tabled at the Kelantan state assembly in April, state executive councillor Asri Mat Daud said. The proposed amendments to the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment were prepared after the state assembly approved a motion to re-legislate 16 offences that were declared null and void by the Federal Court in 2024. A panel of nine judges led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat reached an 8-1 majority decision to annul the enactment after allowing a petition by lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter, Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman.
