Heatwaves reported in Perlis, Kedah and Perak

(Meteorological Department pic) PETALING JAYA: The meteorological department has reported heatwaves throughout Perlis as well as in parts of Kedah and Perak. The department said the Kota Setar, Baling, Sik, Pokok Sena and Pendang districts in Kedah are also experiencing heatwaves, along with the Hulu Perak district in Perak. Fourteen other areas across the peninsula have been placed on a Level 1 (alert) warning: Langkawi, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Kulim, Kuala Muda and Bandar Baharu in Kedah; the North and Northeast districts in Penang; Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Perak Tengah in Perak; Jerantut, Pahang; and Segamat, Johor. The department defines heatwaves as daily temperatures of 37 to 40 degrees Celsius persisting for three consecutive days. Level 1 alerts are issued when temperatures of 35 to 37 degrees Celsius continue over the same period.
