Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin was sacked from Bersatu last month at the height of a bitter leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin. PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin is set to join and take over the relatively unknown Parti Keluarga Malaysia following his sacking from Bersatu last month. The party’s founder, Khairi Jaya, confirmed that the way was being paved for the former Bersatu deputy president to take over the leadership, Berita Harian reported. Khairi said he had held discussions twice now with Hamzah and other sacked Bersatu MPs, including Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan. “Our latest discussion took place last Thursday. I can say it’s 90% confirmed that Hamzah will be taking over Parti Keluarga Malaysia,” he was quoted as saying. Khairi said after Hamzah and others joined Parti Keluarga Malaysia, an internal election would be held to allow him to be elected as party president. “Everything is on track,” he said, adding that the necessary amendments to the party’s constitution were also underway. FMT has reached out to Hamzah for comment. Hamzah was sacked from Bersatu at the height of a bitter leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin. Five other MPs have also been sacked from Bersatu since October, all of whom are aligned with Hamzah. They are Wan Saiful, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik) and Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas). Thirteen MPs still with Bersatu are also in the Larut MP’s corner.
