(Sabah chief minister’s department pic) PETALING JAYA: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has appointed banker and financial regulator Andrew Sheng as his special adviser. Hajiji said Sheng’s vast experience and strong credentials would be an asset to Sabah. “We look forward to his contributions, especially in the economic and investment sectors,” he said in a statement today. A Sabah-born Malaysian based in Hong Kong, Sheng previously served as Bank Negara Malaysia’s chief economist and assistant governor, deputy chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, senior manager at the World Bank, and executive chairman of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission. Currently a special professor at the Institute of Finance under the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Sheng serves on the international advisory councils of the China National Financial Regulatory Administration, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, and the China Investment Corporation. In April 2013, Time Magazine named Sheng among the 100 most influential people in the world.
