PAS treasurer Iskandar Abdul Samad said MIC’s move to reassess its position after leadership changes in PN is standard political practice. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: A PAS leader believes MIC should be given time to consider its future following its decision to remain with Barisan Nasional despite being offered to join Perikatan Nasional. PAS treasurer Iskandar Abdul Samad said MIC’s move to reassess its position because of leadership changes in PN was standard political practice. “This is normal in politics. MIC needs time,” he told FMT. “Perhaps they are considering which coalition can offer the party added value.” Yesterday, PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan pressed MIC to clarify its stance after the party said it would continue with BN for the time being. He said the opposition coalition had given MIC time to respond to its invitation, but a decision could not be delayed indefinitely. On Wednesday, MIC deputy president M Saravanan said earlier discussions about joining PN took place under a different PN leadership, and MIC wanted to ensure it had the Indian community’s support before joining a PAS-led coalition. PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar was appointed PN chairman last month, taking over from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who stepped down in January.
