JASIN: A driver was burnt to death after his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle was believed to have been rammed by a trailer, causing it to catch fire at KM193.8 of the North-South Expressway southbound early this morning. Melaka fire and rescue department public relations officer Hafidzatullah Rashid said the department received an emergency call at 2.15am. Twenty firefighters from the Ayer Keroh and Jasin Bestari fire stations were then dispatched to the scene. “Upon arrival, firefighters found one victim trapped inside the 4WD vehicle while another victim, the 54-year-old trailer driver, managed to escape safely,” he said in a statement today. Hafidzatullah said the 4WD vehicle was about 80% charred while about 50% of the trailer was damaged. “The operation commander later confirmed that the charred victim had been extricated and handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
