Delivery rider jailed 4 months for assaulting pregnant wife

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: A delivery rider was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to two charges of assaulting his pregnant wife on March 15. The accused, Aidil Azahar Rahmat, 22, entered his plea before magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin at the Ayer Keroh magistrates’ court, reported Buletin TV3. He pleaded guilty to intentionally causing injury to his wife, Nur Azhiimah Razak, 20, by punching the back of her head. Aidil also admitted committing the same offence by slapping her face, hitting her head, and pushing her to the ground. The acts were committed at 3.59am and 4.06am at the walkway and inside a premises at Kompleks Perniagaan Kota Syahbandar 1, Jalan KPKS 4, on March 15. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, which provides for a jail term of up to two years, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. The court sentenced him to four months’ imprisonment for each charge, to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on March 19. Prosecuting officer Nur Zaidah Muhamad Zailani urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence. “As a husband, the accused should have protected the victim. We seek a fitting punishment, taking into account the injuries suffered by the victim, who is carrying his child,” she said. According to the facts of the case, the assault was captured on the premises’ closed-circuit television (CCTV), and a police report was lodged by the victim’s mother after viewing the footage. The CCTV footage showed the accused hitting, slapping, pulling the victim’s hair, and ramming his motorcycle into her head while she was lying in front of the premises. The victim was treated at the Melaka Hospital and was confirmed to have sustained soft tissue injuries to her head and right cheek as a result of the assault.
