GEORGE TOWN: Penang police are investigating controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth over a TikTok live video in which he allegedly made threatening, provocative, insulting and racial remarks. Penang police chief Azizee Ismail said the investigation followed a police report lodged on March 8 regarding the video. He added that Zamri is being investigated for sedition, intentional insult likely to provoke a breach of the peace, and online abuse. In a statement, Azizee warned the public against making statements or spreading unverified information, provocative content, or speculation that could incite hostility between races or groups. He stressed that police viewed the matter seriously as it wanted to ensure harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society and maintain public order. Separately, Azizee said police arrested four more men in Bukit Mertajam at about 2.30am today to assist in investigations into an earlier incident involving an alleged attack on Zamri. Zamri claimed he was threatened, and his vehicle damaged, in Bukit Mertajam on March 7. The four suspects, aged between 29 and 31, bring the total number of arrests in the case to six. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for mischief. Azizee said the suspects had been remanded for two days until tomorrow to assist with the investigation.
