Cops detain 49 people in waters off Sabak Bernam

PETALING JAYA: Police detained 49 people, including three Indonesian skippers, in a special integrated operation, codenamed “Op Pintas”, in the waters off Sabak Bernam, Selangor, this morning. Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said that in the 2am operation, police arrested three Indonesian men, aged between 42 and 45, believed to be human traffickers. They also detained 46 Indonesian migrants, including 20 women, aged between 25 and 40. “All the migrants were on their way to Tanjung Balai, Indonesia, from the shores of Sabak Bernam. “The fee charged for each migrant was around RM1,500 to RM2,000, paid in cash to the transporters,” Bernama quoted him as saying today. Kumar said all those arrested were brought to the Sabak Bernam police headquarters for further investigation.
