(File pic) PETALING JAYA: A 22-year-old caregiver was charged at the Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court today with the murder of a four-month-old baby at the daycare centre of Seberang Jaya Hospital earlier this month. According to Harian Metro, Farhana Fazmar Abdullah nodded after the charge was read out by an interpreter before magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit. No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Farhana is accused of causing the death of the baby of Ummu Habibah Wahab, 29, at the Taska Pintar daycare centre at Hospital Seberang Jaya. The offence allegedly took place between 1am and 4am on March 9. Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Amalina Harun led the prosecution while Nur Farhana was represented by Muhaimin Hashim. The court denied bail and fixed June 23 for case mention pending autopsy and chemical reports. Another woman remanded alongside Farhana was released on RM10,000 bail and will act as a prosecution witness. Hayl Haarith Syafaeez died in the early hours of March 9 after being found unconscious at the childcare centre. Hayl’s mother, Ummu, works at the hospital and had been on the night shift.
