The renaming of the national stadium comes with a commitment to enhance sustainability and upgrade facilities to ensure it remains a suitable venue for hosting world-class sporting and entertainment events. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: The Bukit Jalil National Stadium has been renamed the TM National Stadium. The renaming of the national stadium follows a three-year “strategic partnership” signed between Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) and Telekom Malaysia Berhad recently. In a statement, PSM said the Putra indoor stadium has also been renamed to Unifi Arena. “The strategic partnership aims to enhance sustainability and upgrade facilities to ensure the stadium remains a suitable venue for hosting world-class sporting and entertainment events,” PSM said in a statement. Three years ago, then youth and sports minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu raised the possibility that the national stadium in Bukit Jalil would be rebranded in the future using a strategic partner’s name. He said the rebranding was among suggestions made on ways to generate income to meet stadium expenses for maintenance. In 2017, the Putra indoor stadium at the national sports complex was rebranded as Axiata Arena as a result of a partnership between PSM and Axiata Group via a 10-year agreement worth RM55 million.
