Boy, 9, dies in early morning fire in Sri Aman

(JBPM pic) KUCHING: A nine-year-old boy was killed in a house fire at Taman Sentosa Indah, Sri Aman, early this morning. The Sarawak fire and rescue department, in a statement, said there were six victims inside the house when the incident occurred. The department received an emergency call about the incident at 3.02am, after which personnel from the Sri Aman fire and rescue station were dispatched to the scene. “The fire involved a two-storey semi-permanent house that was completely destroyed in the blaze. The charred remains of one of the victims, a young boy, were found on the upper floor of the house. “The victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further action,” it said, adding that a 41-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man also suffered burn injuries and were sent to Sri Aman Hospital. “Meanwhile, three other victims – a 40-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy – who sustained burn injuries to their legs were taken to the hospital by members of the public,” the department said, adding that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
