KUALA LUMPUR: Issues concerning Bersatu’s wings and divisions, triggered by the resignations of their chiefs and committee members, are expected to be resolved within a week, according to youth chief Hilman Idham. The Gombak Setia assemblyman said the party was performing well and actively working to strengthen itself. “We expect that all issues faced by these divisions will be resolved in the near future. “The party has been proactive and I believe (the issues) can be resolved within a week,” he told reporters outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex. Hilman said the party was also focusing on the state elections in Melaka and Johor, which are expected to take place soon. A slew of division chiefs and committee members had resigned in protest of the move to sack deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, and over dissatisfaction with the leadership of party president Muhyiddin Yassin. On Feb 21, Muhyiddin announced that the party was restructuring the wings and divisions affected by the resignations. He said the restructuring of the affected wings and divisions would involve the acting chiefs or the establishment of new committees. A task force co-chaired by Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Radzi Jidin, who have been appointed to carry out the duties of the party deputy president, was formed to oversee the restructuring, while its secretariat will be overseen by secretary-general Azmin Ali. Muhyiddin also said that state chiefs had been instructed to identify the divisions affected by the resignations. Hamzah was sacked from the party on Feb 13 amid a leadership tussle between him and Muhyiddin, on grounds that he had breached its constitution.
