Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz says she will likely defend her Puteri Wangsa state seat in the next Johor election. PETALING JAYA: Newly elected Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz says she will introduce a two-term limit for the party’s top leadership posts as part of internal reforms. She said the move will prevent power from being concentrated among a select few people and abused, adding that reform must begin within the party before being applied at the national level. “I have always believed that whatever reforms Muda wants to bring to our beloved Malaysia must first be reflected in our party,” she told FMT. Amira said the proposed term limit was part of her manifesto during the party election. She also confirmed that she does not intend to hold the party’s treasurer position to reflect her disagreement with holding conflicting positions. Having served as acting president since 2023 when former party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman stepped down, Amira was elected Muda president on March 14 at the party’s inaugural internal elections. The party polls saw 125 delegates electing a 25-member central executive committee (CEC) from among 31 candidates. Amira secured 103 votes, behind Leben Siddarth (110), and Saiyidah Izzati Nur (104). Under Muda’s electoral system, the elected CEC members determine the top leadership roles. Amira was unanimously appointed party president. Amira, the Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, also indicated that she is likely to defend her state seat in the next Johor election, although the final decision will be made collectively by the party. She said Muda has no plans for political collaborations at this stage, but any such decision will be made collectively.
