(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: Controversial activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak claims he was unaware that he allegedly desecrated a sacred Hindu symbol, saying he mistook the trident for a rusty piece of metal. In a Facebook post last night, Tamim, who has been at the forefront of a campaign against allegedly illegal Hindu temples – said he was in Langkawi to “release tension” when he chanced upon a cave. Tamim said that while feeding some monkeys in the area, he found a sharp metal object. “It never crossed my mind that the metal object was a religious symbol as it was sharp and rusty and there were no houses of worship around,” he said. Tamim also uploaded a picture of the trident, or soolam, and another of the object he had found. “You can evaluate for yourselves that the metal object I found is far different from what the trident looks like.” Two days ago, Sentosa assemblyman G Gunaraj lodged a police report over a viral video involving the alleged desecration of the trident, a sacred symbol in Hinduism. Gunaraj said the incident must be treated with urgency as it could trigger racial and religious tensions.
