This Ramadan, Grandmama’s in Damansara Heights has introduced its Sajian Nenda Iftar Buffet. It’s the first-ever large-format iftar buffet at the Pavilion Damansara Heights Arena, designed to host up to 300 guests. Grandmama’s opened its first outlet in Pavilion KL in 2012 and has since expanded to six locations, bringing homely and, yes, grandmotherly Malaysian cooking to diners. On typical days, the restaurant serves à la carte dishes such as its best-selling dried fried sang har egg noodles, nasi lemak with curry chicken, and more. This year marks a special milestone as Grandmama’s is also hosting its buffet at the Pavilion Damansara Heights Arena next door, a spacious hall. With more than 60 dishes, the buffet is a well-rounded spread, complete with live cooking stations and performances for a relaxing evening. Afrizal Zamzani, general manager of Grandmama’s Pavilion Damansara Heights spoke with FMT Lifestyle about the Sajian Nenda Iftar Buffet. “We focus on quality, not quantity. For example, our mee curry comes with udang galah, and the daging lemak salai is made with wagyu beef.” Seafood lovers will find plenty to enjoy: prawns, mussels and bamboo clams. As you walk in, the first thing that hits you is the smell of roast lamb at the buffet entrance. It’s carved then sautéed on the spot with onions and peppers and served with black pepper sauce. Among the traditional favourites, the nasi kerabu is a must-try. Add as much ulam, grated coconut, and sambal as you like, with ayam bakar percik or gulai ikan tongkol. It’s fresh and almost nostalgic. The rendang daging tok is another hit the whole table will be raving about – tender and bursting with flavour. At the live noodle station, their mee curry with giant freshwater prawns is a stand-out. Grandmama’s doesn’t stop at Malaysian dishes. There’s a western corner with spaghetti, roast chicken with mashed potatoes, and pan-seared seabass with lemon butter sauce. From fresh prawns and mussels to bamboo clams, seafood lovers get plenty of bang for their buck. And no buffet is quite complete without desserts. Nyonya kuih, chocolate cake, and bread pudding are solid picks, but the ice wagon with ABC and cendol steals the show – a refreshing treat after so much spicy food. In the spirit of Ramadan, Grandmama’s is also giving back. RM1 from every diner at the “Sajian Nenda Iftar Buffet” will be donated to charity.
