Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam said the incident occurred at about 9pm when the complainant, a Malaysian, saw the photographers beating an Indian tourist. The complainant reprimanded the men for their action and told them to stop, but the group warned him against interfering in the matter. “Suddenly, the complainant was attacked from behind on the head with a kerambit (curved knife). He was also beaten by a few of the photographers. “The situation descended into chaos as about 30 people attacked the complainant,” Sazalee said in a statement. The suspects, all men aged 17 to 45, were arrested the following night in the same area. He said all of them admitted to being present when the incident occurred and working as unlicensed photographers there. Two of the suspects were positively identified by witnesses. The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon.
