(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested 11 men and one woman in connection with the torching of three vehicles belonging to activist S Chandrasegaran, better known as Cikgu Chandra. Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said seven of the 12 suspects, aged between 30 and 40, were identified as having been directly involved in the incident and are still under remand, Bernama reported. “Five others have been released on police bail, including the woman, who is the wife of one of the suspects,” he was quoted as saying. Shazeli added that the suspects were nabbed between March 12 and yesterday in several locations. Police also confiscated a Toyota Vios, Honda City and Nissan Almera, as well as two motorcycles and 14 handphones. He said preliminary investigations found that the incident was caused by dissatisfaction with the activist. Police found no elements of gangs being involved. Shazeli said checks found that five of the seven suspects under remand had criminal records. Investigations are being held for criminal intimidation, mischief and mischief by fire. Three of Chandrasegaran’s vehicles were destroyed in a fire after objects believed to be petrol bombs were thrown at his home in the early hours of March 10. The day before, two men carrying parangs damaged the iron grille at the front of his house and smashed the rear window of his Perodua Viva.
