In a statement, Penang fire and rescue department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said they received a call about the fire at 11.29am. The first fire engine from the Bagan Jermal station arrived at the scene at 11.45am. Sagun said the operation involved 23 firefighters from the Bagan Jermal station, assisted by firefighters from Teluk Bahang, Jalan Perak, and Bayan Baru. He said firefighters faced challenges due to the narrow access roads to the site and low water pressure in the area. Police assisted in maintaining order and ensuring safe access for firefighters. “The cause of the fire and the extent of losses are still under investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” he said. The flames were fully contained by 12.21pm and extinguished shortly after. No casualties were reported.
