Keeping to their famiy tradition, which started in 2018, the family members are all clad in emerald green for the first day of Syawal at their parents’ home at Kampung Tok Dir, Kuala Terengganu. This is especially true for Muda Abdullah, 68, his wife, Khatijah Said, 62, their 12 children, 30 grandchildren and 10 in-laws. Every year, during the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, they will gather at the couple’s home at Kampung Tok Dir in Kuala Terengganu all dressed in matching outfits, which they describe as “sedondon”, or equal, for the occasion. Wearing a uniform raya outfit, they say, is a symbol of togetherness and harmony among them. Muda told Bernama the yearly practice not only brightens the atmosphere on Syawal morning but also reflects the values of love and strong bond within the family. He said the tradition, which started in 2018, is one way to maintaining close relationships among his family members. “We agree on every member wearing the same colour every Hari Raya. It looks more organised and harmonious when everyone gathers in matching colours on Aidilfitri morning,” he said. Muda’s daughter, Nazifa Qasrina, 25, said the colour choice is based on a vote involving all family members to ensure everyone had a say in determining the theme of the clothing. For this Aidilfitri, she said, the family picked emerald green, after receiving majority support among family members, with each one purchasing their own clothes in the agreed colour without the need for special orders. She said most of her family members live nearby in the same village, making it easier for them to gather and celebrate Aidilfitri together.
